Health and Wellbeing

Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Stokes Wood we take wellbeing seriously and prioritise mental health and promote an open and understanding culture. Children are taught about the five ways to wellbeing:

We encourage children to be active and take notice of what is around them especially through outdoor learning such as forest school. You can view our wellbeing offer here.

Mental Health Support Teams

We are very lucky to have Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHST) at Stokes Wood. MHST are part of a national programme to reduce inequalities and increase access to mental health support for children and young people.

Sarah Burton is in school every Tuesday and she supports children who are experiencing:

  • low mood
  • worry
  • anxiety and avoidance (e.g. simple phobias or separation anxiety)
  • sleep difficulties

She provides techniques and strategies to pupils either on a direct 1:1 basis, or within school groups. MHST also work closely with parents/carers to help them understand and support their child’s mental health.

For more information about MHST please speak to the pastoral team or click here.
