Admissions

Stokes Wood Primary School is a place where every child is valued, nurtured, and encouraged to aspire to greatness. You are very welcome to come and visit us to have a look round before you make your decision; it's important that you feel that you have found the right school for your child.

The school admits 60 pupils per year group at First Time Admissions (FTA). This is known as the Published Admission Number (PAN).

The Local Authority decides which pupils are admitted to our school. Priority is given to children of families who live within our catchment area, and pupils who have a sibling in school. Our catchment area can be found here.

Parents apply to Leicester City School Admissions by completing an Admission Form online requesting a place at Stokes Wood.

Offer Dates

The single offer of a place will be sent by Leicester City Council on:

  • 3rd March 2025 - Secondary School (Year 7)
  • 16th April 2025 - Primary school (Reception)

Admissions to Nursery

We offer a warm, loving, calm and enriched environment where 3-year-olds can start their school journey.

To apply for a place at our nursery please contact the school directly on 0116 287 5305.

You can put your child's name on the nursery waiting list at any time, but they will not be admitted before the academic year in which they reach their fourth birthday.

Please note that a place in our Nursery does not automatically entitle you to a place in one of our reception classes. You must make a separate application for a place in our reception class through Leicester City School Admissions.

Mid-Term (In-Year) Applications

We participate in with the Local Authority’s coordinated scheme for Mid-Term (In-Year) applications. Should you wish to make an application to the school, parents must make an application via the Local Authority.

Oversubscription Criteria

At the point of first-time admission, if there are more requests for places than available, places will be allocated up to the PAN in accordance with the priority oversubscription criteria.

1st

Pupils in the care of a Local Authority or who were previously in the care of a Local Authority.

2nd

Pupils who have a serious medical condition or exceptional social or domestic needs that make it essential they attend the school requested.

3rd

Pupils who are both living in the catchment area and have sibling attending the school at the time of their application and admission.

4th

Pupils who live outside the catchment area but have a sibling attending the school who will still be on roll when the applicant starts school.

5th

Pupils living in the catchment area at the time of application and admission.

6th

Within each criterion priority will be given to children living closest to the school, as measured on a straight-line basis using a geographical information system measuring from the Geo-code reference point from the child’s home address to the Geo-code reference point for the school.

Appeal a School Place

The Local Authority will make the final decision on whether a place is available or not. If your child has been refused a place in the school you have applied to, you have the right to appeal against this decision. Appeals are managed by the local authority and more information can be found here.
