Children in reception to Year 6 should be in class at 8.50am
School finishes at 3.20pm.
Total hours: 32.5 hours per week
Nursery children: morning sessions start at 8.45am and finish at 11.45 am.
: afternoon sessions start at 12.15pm and finish at 3.15pm
There are full time places available also. |

School uniform |
Children look very smart in their school uniform.
Stokes Wood uniform is as follows:
• grey/black skirt/pinafore
• grey/black trousers
• white or light blue polo shirt
• royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan, with or without school logo
• royal blue fleece with or without school logo
• low-heeled shoes
• white or grey socks or grey/black tights
• blue and white checked dress for summer.
Trainers should only be worn for outdoor games.
School sweatshirts, cardigans and fleeces with the school logo may be purchased from school. Order and pay on line using SCOPAY and collect from the office.
Uniform without the school logo can be purchased from a range of supermarkets and other clothes outlets.
Children with pierced ears should wear a small stud earring or a small sleeper which must be removed or covered for P.E. and swimming. We advise that children do not wear jewellery for health and safety reasons unless it is a religious requirement. It would be helpful if parents remove earrings/studs on PE days or send in micropore tape to cover them. Thank you.
SMART WATCHES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL.
Trainers should only be worn for outdoor games or at break times, not all day.
As the children wear similar clothes, it is essential to label them with your child’s name as you purchase new items.
PE Kit: children are required to have black plimsolls, blue polo shirt (supplied and washed by the school) and navy or black shorts in a PE bag (ALL CLEARLY NAMED PLEASE).
Games Kit: as for PE with tracksuit/sweatshirt for cold weather and trainers (plimsolls not suitable for outdoor PE) (ALL CLEARLY NAMED PLEASE).
Swimming (Year 5 and 6 only): towel, swimming costume or trunks, swimming hat and suitable bag. Goggles may be worn with a permission letter.
Boys and girls with long hair MUST tie it back to avoid hair hanging in the eyes/face of themselves or others. This also helps to prevent the spread of head lice.
All school clothing and footwear should be clearly marked with the child’s name. |

Friday 9.05am: Nursery/Reception and KS1 Celebration Assembly Parents/carers invited
Friday 2.45pm: KS2 Celebration Assembly Parents/carers invited.
Other special assemblies occur throughout the year to celebrate religious events and parents and carers will be notified and invited by letter, newsletter and the outdoor screens.

Stokes Wood Primary School teaches phonics from the nursery class using the validated ALS programme. This is a whole class approach combined with small group work and interventions to ensure all pupils receive the support they need to learn to read accurately, fluently and with understanding and enjoyment. Early readers use books which are phonically matched to their reading ability. Reading is also taught using whole class shared reading and guided reading ability groups. A range of books are used for guided reading which are benchmarked using the PM scheme. The school also uses Accelerated Reader for pupils' individual reading which is a library scheme which encourages children to read a range of books and genre through quizzes and rewards. A dedicated member of staff in the library supports pupils in selecting appropriate books, encourages reluctant readers and maintains the standard and selection of books available for all levels of individual reading.

A message and invitation to our parents/carers and wider family members and friends
You are all most welcome to take part in any way you can, in the learning of your child.
Please feel welcome to offer your support in classrooms, reading with children in school, attending focus days, assemblies and school visits.
We also encourage you to support your children at home, especially in reading. Evidence shows that children, who read regularly and if possible, daily at home with an adult, achieve considerably better than children who don’t. This can be the adult reading to their child or child reading to the adult, or even better: both!!
Parents and carers are so important to your child’s future success. Please get involved in how ever you can and if you are not sure of the best way to do this, ask your child’s teacher or Mrs. Gadsby. They will be delighted to help.

No Outsiders
Please find attached information on a new part of the curriculum called No Outsiders.
‘No Outsiders’ is an exciting part of our curriculum. Being a ‘No Outsiders’ school means that we celebrate diversity and are committed to the principles of inclusion and equality. Everyone is welcome at Stokes Wood Primary School. It is a primary aim of our school that every member of the school community feels valued and respected. We are a caring community where whole school values are built on mutual trust and respect for all, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age or gender. The ‘No Outsiders’ project fulfils our duty to promote diversity and prepares your children for life in modern Britain. ‘No Outsiders’ is British Law and supports the Equality Act to ensure that everybody is treated equally and without prejudice.
No Outsiders is part of our Relationships, Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (RSHE/PSHE) curriculum and will be taught through a series of picture books addressing the different areas of the Equality Act.
